December
1, 2009 - Newsletter sent to top 20 in points from 2009.
Dear Drivers & Crews,
I hope this letter finds you and your families doing well as we
enter this Holiday Season. I want to start by thanking you again
for a great year at the track. Although it seems like I watched way
too much of the weather channel this year, I feel like we were
blessed with good crowds and solid car counts throughout the
season. The addition of the Pilot Grove Savings Bank/ Ideal Ready
Mix Late Model “Drive for Five” really brought some excitement to
our program. Along with our first ever Eve of Destruction that many
people seemed to enjoy. We could not put on the great race programs
that we do without you. Jenni and I both want to thank you very
much for your support in Donnellson.
With 2009 coming to a close it is time to get started on 2010.
Enclosed you will find banquet information, registration forms,
season pass specials and more. Please take time to go over the
information and we hope you make plans to attend the banquet.
Tickets are already selling well and good seats go fast so please
don’t wait till the last minute to get tickets for your group. The
banquet will be held at the same location as last year, Fort
Madison’s Comfort Inn & Suites, and room rate specials will be
available (319) 372-6800. Just let them know you are with the Lee
County Speedway. This year’s banquet is sure to be another great
time for all.
Looking forward to 2010, we are working to continue the Pilot
Grove Savings Bank/ Ideal Ready Mix Late Model “Drive for Five.”
Although I we are still putting the program together, sponsors and
supporters seem to be excited and on board again for next season.
After a two year break, we have scheduled two Ideal Ready Mix Sprint
Invader Shows at LCS. These include the Budweiser Hospitality Night
which will be held Wednesday, June 9th and the Sprint
Invader Season Championships Saturday, Sept. 25th. These
two shows will be in addition to the Sprint Invader event held
during the Lee County Fair on Friday, July 9th for a
total of three appearances in Donnellson. Plans are also being made
to continue the IMCA Liberty Cup for Modifieds, Stock Cars and
another class to be announced. This race will be the final stop on
a four day swing for the Great American Stock Car Shootout this year
beginning with Marshalltown on Monday, Alta on Tuesday, Independence
on Wednesday, and Donnellson on Thursday, July 1st.
These events, along with two Eve of Destruction/ School Bus Races, a
couple of fall specials and Shiverfest should provide for another
fun, exciting and action packed season of racing for everyone.
2010 Rules for IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Late Models, IMCA Stock Cars,
and IMCA Sport Mods are currently available at
www.imca.com. We will put the finishing touches on the 2010
Hobby Stock and Wild Thing rules soon. We don’t expect any major
changes to either division.
As we are making plans for the Awards Banquet and next year’s
racing season we certainly hope that you are making plans to be a
part of it. We enjoy having you and wish you luck this coming year.
Happy Holidays from all of us at Lee County Speedway!
Sincerely,
Terry & Jenni Hoenig

Rain Takes All Five Features at Shiverfest
Donnellson, Iowa – Three inches of rain on Thursday forced the
tenth running of Shiverfest to Sunday afternoon at the Lee County
Speedway in Donnellson and, while warm temperatures and sunny skies
greeted competitors as they signed in to compete, a steady rain that
moved in from the southwest put an early end to the event. All five
feature races fell victim to the weather and drivers were paid a
share of the combined purse depending upon how they finished in the
heat races.
While the end result was disappointing for all involved, there
were still some bright spots to this annual event. More than sixty
drivers participated in the pre-race trick-or-treating with the kids
who all went back into the stands with a nice stash of sweets. And
with the support of sponsors, drivers and fans, Shiverfest raised
over $1,800 for the individuals and families who are battling kidney
disease at the Southeast Renal Dialysis Units in Mt. Pleasant,
Keokuk, Fort Madison, Burlington and Fairfield. Area sponsors who
made this event happen and who helped raise the money donated to the
dialysis units included Mt. Pleasant Tire & Service, Hy-Vee Food
Store (Mt. Pleasant), Mike Henderson with Edward Jones Investments,
Brown’s Shoe Fit (Mt. Pleasant), Becker’s Jewelers, Jason Liechty
with Balzer’s Inc., Hagge Insurance, Access Energy and Access Energy
Propane, KILJ Radio, "The Pepsi Inside Track" on KRNQ, Floyd’s EZ
Way Container Service, 101.7 "The Bull", KDMG "Big Country 103.1"
and Lee County EMS. Donations to the Dialysis Units were also
received from Fleck Sales Company, Pilot Grove Savings Bank,
Zaiser’s Florist and Greenhouse and Elder Implement. The amount
raised grew even further when the 50-50 winner Dee Moffett of Lowell
donated her winnings back to the Dialysis units and when Steve Park
of Bloomfield made an additional donation to the volunteers as they
completed their duties of the day.
Fans are reminded to hold on to their grandstand ticket stubs
from Shiverfest as they will be good for five dollars off of the
general admission price to the 2010 season opener at the Lee County
Speedway. And here’s hoping for a warm dry Saturday next October for
the return of "Shiverfest".

Wet
Grounds Push “Shiverfest” Back to Sunday
Donnellson, IA – A steady rain that fell for
sixteen hours straight on Thursday has left the Lee County Speedway
in Donnellson too wet for the racing action that was scheduled for
this Saturday. So, at this point, “Shiverfest” has been postponed
by one day to this Sunday afternoon October 25th.
“We are going to need some cooperation from the
weather both today and Saturday to dry this place out enough to run
Sunday,” stated promoter Terry Hoenig, “but with the winds of Friday
and the sunshine that is predicted for Saturday we thought that we
would give Mother Nature a chance to see if she is a race fan or
not!” The pit gate will open at noon on Sunday with the rest of the
original schedule moved up by one hour. The draw cutoff will be at
2:00 p.m., hot laps will be at 2:15, trick-or-treating at 3:00 with
racing starting at 3:30 p.m.
Fans and drivers are encouraged to check back
on Sunday before making the trip to Donnellson as officials will be
evaluating the facility mid-morning to make sure that enough drying
has taken place and that the weather for Sunday is looking
favorable. “Our main concern will be the pit area as the track was
packed hard on Tuesday night in anticipation of the rain,” said
Hoenig. “Sunday’s forecast right now is calling for a temperature
near sixty with a slight chance of rain depending upon what service
you are looking at. That was the same forecast that we had for this
past Wednesday and look how it turned out, that day would have been
perfect for racing!”
Information on this Sunday’s “Shiverfest” can
be found at
www.leecountyspeedway.com and
the race day track phone number is (319) 835-5523. Fans and drivers
can also receive notifications and updates via text to their cell
phones by joining the Lee County Speedway group, just text the word
RACE to 91011 to sign up.
For rules questions or other information please contact the
speedway office at (319) 528-4301. Hope to see you on Sunday at “Shiverfest”!

Tenth Running of
“Shiverfest” Set For October 24th At Lee County Speedway
Donnellson, Iowa – The
leaves are turning colors, the farmers are in the fields and that
nasty word of “snow” is starting to pop into the weather forecasts,
so it must be time for “Shiverfest”! The tenth running of Iowa’s
racing finale that includes a unique mixture of racing and family
fun is scheduled for Saturday October 24th at the Lee
County Speedway in Donnellson and even though it is usually the
latest regularly scheduled race program in the state of Iowa, the
weather has cooperated for nine of the first ten years.
“The early October
weather has not been real conducive to dirt track racing, but
hopefully Mother Nature is getting it out of her system,” stated
promoter Terry Hoenig. “The drivers and the fans really enjoy this
event whether it is cloudy and chilly, or warm and sunny, but I
think we all know what we would prefer! Either way it is a great
event to top off our season here at the Lee County Speedway.” Last
year Hoenig and his crew had to scramble on race day to roll in over
an inch of rain that fell in the days before the event, but after a
brief delay more than 170 cars and drivers put on another excellent
show for the fans and more than $1,500 was raised for the
individuals and families battling kidney disease at the Southeast
Regional Dialysis Units. The “Shiverfest” lineup will once again
showcase five racing divisions including Modifieds, Sport Mods (B-Mods),
Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks & Four Cylinder “Wild Things” and if
history holds true, another solid car count is expected. “We have
been thrilled with the support of our sponsors and in fact we have
even picked up a couple of more over last year” continued Hoenig,
“if we catch a good weather day on the 24th we just might
go over the $2,000 mark for the dialysis units this year”
Modifieds will be racing
for a $500 top prize, Stock Cars will shoot for $300-to-win, Sport
Mods will be looking for a $275 winners check, the Hobby Stock
winner will earn a $250 check and the winner of the Four Cylinder
“Wild Things” will collect $100. In addition there will be Bonus
Money on the line for all five feature winners through the All Iowa
Points and Modified and Sport Mod drivers ranked in the top 100 in
Missouri Points will also collect additional cash in victory lane.
Kids in costume will be
able to participate in trick-or-treating with the drivers in the
infield after hot laps and there will also be hayrack ride pit tours
and more for fans of all ages during this family fun event.
Pit gates will open at
noon and drivers are encouraged to arrive early. The pill draw will
end at 3:00 p.m. as the drivers’ meeting begins and hot laps will
get underway at 3:15. Drivers who would like to participate in
trick-or-treating for the kids should have their car and their
treats ready to go to the infield at 4:00 and green flag racing will
get underway at 4:30 p.m..

Lawson Racing Posts All Iowa Points Bonus For The SportMods/Limited
Modifieds at “Shiverfest”
Donnellson, Iowa – As a racer himself for the past eighteen
years Paul Lawson knows how important it is to take home
some extra money at the end of the night and that is one
reason why Lawson Racing will sponsor the All Iowa Points
Bonus program for the SportMod/Limited Modified division at
the 2009 “Shiverfest”. The tenth running of the annual
family fun racing event will be held on Saturday October
24th at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa.
Lawson himself has turned a lot laps at the Lee County
Speedway and other area tracks since he started racing back
in 1992 and through those years he has learned quite a bit
from trial and error on his own equipment. Now drivers can
take advantage of that experience through the variety of
products and services offered by Lawson Racing. Complete
engine assembly as well as chassis fabrication and
modification highlight the machine shop services, and Paul
takes great pride on being able to develop a complete engine
program to suit both the driving style and budget of each
customer. Lawson Racing is also a proud dealer for
Performance Bodies, JR Motorsports, All Star Performance and
many more and the Lawson Racing parts bus can be found every
race night at the Lee County Speedway.
Based upon the All Iowa Points standings through October
19th, drivers ranked in the top ten of their division will
earn the top-level “Gold” bonus if they can win the
“Shiverfest” feature in their division, drivers ranked 11th
through 30th will earn the second-level “Silver” bonus if
they win and drivers ranked 31st through 100th will take
home the “Bronze” bonus with a feature victory. Each bonus
is in addition to the winner’s purse already posted for the
event.
At the 2009 “Shiverfest” the Sport Mod/Limited Modified
feature will pay $250-to-win with a Lawson Racing Gold bonus
of $300, a Silver bonus of $200 and a Bronze bonus of $100.

“Paul has been an official and a flagman in the past at the
speedway, but I always think of him as a racer and a
winner,” stated All Iowa Points compiler Jeff Broeg. “It is
no surprise to see how much a driver improves his
performance when they start working with him at Lawson
Racing. I really appreciate that he has joined the All Iowa
Points bonus program for 2009.”
