LEE COUNTY SPEEDWAY
2010 RULES FOR HOBBY STOCK
All underlined
words are changes made from previous year’s rules.
1.Any 1960 or newer
U.S. Manufactured full body passenger car. No 4-wheel drives, station
wagons, Firebirds, Camaros, or convertibles.
2.Minimum wheelbase
allowed is 107.5 inches (zero tolerance). Unibody cars may be tied
together. (Maximum 2x2 square tubing.) Tow hooks on front and rear of
car capable of lifting the car are mandatory.
3.Full perimeter 4
post roll cages with X brace in rear securely welded to frame must be used.
Three horizontal door bars on each side mandatory (four recommended).
Driver’s side door bars must be tied together with vertical bars and
attached to frame in at least two places not including the corner posts.
One cross bar in top halo of roll cage mandatory. Minimum .095 tubing at
least 1.667 outside dia. for cages & door bars. Petty bar will be allowed.
One loop in front of radiator of 1 ½” round tube may be used between front
frame horns. One vertical vent bar (sagger bar) from the front corner of
halo to driver door bar is manditory (1-1/4” bar minimum). Passengers side
bar of the same type is recommended.
4.Car body and frames
must be completely stock. No cutting, chopping, or shortening allowed,
except for placement of roll cage. Wheel openings may be trimmed for
reasonable tire clearance. The steel stock unaltered floor pan, firewalls,
trunk lid, and wheel wells must be retained with metal. Trunk floor must be
removed above rear end housing & between frame rails (except on unibody
cars). A steel or aluminum fire wall must be in place to separate the
trunk from the interior of the car and it must remain the in the OEM
position. When using a newer style front wheel drive car body the floor
pan must remain OEM for that frame and in OEM location. May use 1988-1996
Cutlass, Grand Prix, Lumina, Regal or Monte Carlo body on 1978-1987 GM
108-inch wheelbase full frame. Frame must match body – GM to GM, Ford to
Ford, Chrysler to Chrysler, and wheelbase to wheelbase. Exception is: 1980
or newer Ford unibody may be installed on Ford full frame, and shortened to
minimum 107.5-inch wheelbase. Rear of frame behind rear tires, from a point
no further forward than one inch behind factory seam, may be replaced in OEM
location with two-inch by three-inch steel tubing with .095-inch wall
thickness. Factory seam must remain visible. Unibody must tie rear frame
to front frame. Frame may be ‘X’ braced. No Camaros, Firebirds, or
Mustangs. A steel firewall must be in place to separate the trunk from the
interior of the car. Hoods may be gutted. Front inner fenders may be
removed. All stock windows must be left open. Opera window may be enclosed
with Lexan if desired. Hood scoops are allowed but must be sealed off to
the outside so it cannot draw air through them or allow fluids to spray out
of them. Front windshield screen and three vertical 3/8” minimum bars
required. Dash must not extend more than 24” back from the center of the
top edge of the fire wall. Fire wall must remain in stock location. Rear
of dash cannot be higher than the front except for cowl in front of driver.
No other interior enclosures or covers allowed. After market nose pieces
and tail pieces are allowed.
6.All doors must be
welded shut. Hoods & trunk lids must be securely fastened with pins, no
bolts. Rub rails no bigger than 1”x 1” tubing or ¼”x 2” flat steel may be
attached to body from fender well to fender well, flush with body with
smooth edges and painted to match car.
7.Bumpers must be in
stock location. Hydraulic bumpers must be welded to brackets and rackets
welded to frame. Hydraulic bumpers should be drilled to release oil. Tube
type bumpers are allowed on the front of the car, behind aftermarket nose
pieces only. Cars that do not have an aftermarket nose piece must run a
stock type bumper on the front of the car.All cars must have
tow hooks or chain loops on both ends of the car strong enough to hold the
weight of the car when being towed off the track.
8.All cars must have
an aluminum racing seat. Seat must be securely fastened to roll cage cross
member and frame.
9.Stock gas tank must
be removed. Fuel cell required. Fuel Cell vents, including cap vent, must
have check valves. If fuel cell does not have aircraft style positive seal
filler neck/cap system – a flapper, spring or ball type filler rollover
valve is required. Fuel cell must be encased in an approved steel can and
must be securely mounted. Fuel lines through driver’s compartment must be
in steel pipe or conduit. No vented gas caps. Check valves are recommended
in all vent lines.
10.Drive shaft must
be painted white!
An approved safety loop required and must be constructed of ¼”x 2” steel
strap no more than 6” behind front universal joint. Drive shaft must be
made of steel.
11.Battery must be relocated and securely/safely mounted. If in
driver’s compartment it must be enclosed in a box. If located in truck area
it must be located between and above the frame rails but does not have to be
in an enclosed box. Positive post must be covered with plastic or rubber in
either location. Only one 12 volt battery allowed in car.
12.No computers of any
kind allowed on car.
13.Weights must be
painted white with car number on them. All weights, regardless of size’
must be secured inside trunk or between the frame rails with a minimum of
two ½” bolts. No weight allowed in driver’s compartment. No weight can
be bolted to bumpers. No sandbags or loose ballast permitted.
14.Spoilers, wings, skirts, or anything that alters the stock appearance is
not allowed.
15.
Car must be clearly marked with contrasting number 18” high & 3” stripe
width on both sides of
the car as well as on the roof.
DRIVER’S EQUIPMENT
1.An approved helmet
with a Snell SA 2000 or SA 2005 rating or SFI 31.1/2005 approved & full fire
suits required. Competition 5-point shoulder harness & lap belts are
mandatory & must be securely fastened to the frame or roll cage. Fire
extinguisher recommended.
2.Fire resistant
gloves are required & fire resistant shoes recommended. A 16”x20” mesh or
ribbon type window net is required. No string window nets or sprint car
type window nets allowed. Latch must be located at the top of the window.
Neck braces required. Kill switch clearly marked “ON” & “OFF” recommended.
Window net must be fasted to the roll cage on top and bottom of the net,
NOT to the door panel or roof of the car.
3.Roll bar padding is
required in driver’s compartment. The 3 halo bars, the cross bar in the
halo, and any lower leg protection bars must be covered in roll bar padding.
SUSPENSION - TRANSMISSION - REAR END
1.All springs must be
stock type for that make and model. Coils for coil spring cars, leaf for
leaf spring cars.
Coil Springs – One steel
spring per wheel, mounted on top of and centered over the axle tube of the
rear-end housing in OEM location. All springs must be minimum 4 ½
inches O.D. and non progressive. Rubber or Nylon control arm bushings
only. Center of rear lower control arm bolt hole must be 2.25 – 2.5 inches
from bottom of housing with only one mounting hole. No multi-holed lower
control arm brackets. Lower control arms must be the same length measured
from bolt hole to bolt hole. No sway bars, panard bars, spring spacers,
chains or cables allowed. Spring Rubbers are allowed on rear only.
Leaf Springs – Leaf springs
must be steel and must be mounted the same on both sides. One set of leaf
springs per side. No mono leafs. Leaf springs can use a two holed spring
shackle in the rear of the spring. No sliders. No adjustable lowering
blocks.
2.All 4 brakes must
lock up. No brake shut-off devices allowed. No brake bias proportioning
valves, other than the factory front to rear proportioning valve, are
allowed.
3.Full floating rear
ends and safety hubs are allowed. 9” Ford allowed, but must be mounted like
stock rear end for that make and model following the guidelines listed
above. Disc brakes allowed on rear with Ford 9” but must use steel
O.E.M. type brake calipers. No aftermarket brake calipers allowed.
Aftermarket brake pedal assemblies are allowed. Posi-traction or locked
rear ends are allowed.
4.Transmissions: One
2” inspection hole, that is easily accessible, is required on all bell
housings.
Manual Transmissions must be OEM three or four speeds with a minimum 10.5” steel/ organic
single disc-type clutch and steel pressure plate assembly inside an
explosion-proof steel bell-housing – minimum 270 degrees around top of
clutch and flywheel area. No lightweight bell housings. Steel flywheels
only.
Automatic Transmissions must be OEM with OEM pump and original bell-housings.
Minimum 10” diameter torque converter containing a minimum of three quarts
of fluid. Torque converter must have a minimum .125” drain plug. Must have
approved scatter shield constructed of minimum .125” x 3” steel strap, 270
degrees around flex plate. Flex plate must be full, unaltered OEM or OEM
replacement. No transmission oil coolers located in the driver's
compartment.
5.One steel, non adjustable shock per wheel
in stock location using stock mounts. Lower rear shock mount location is 4.5
inches from the bottom of housing to center of bolt hole and centered side
to side on the lower control arm bracket. Bracket may only have one hole
for shock mount. Maximum tube diameter is 1.999”. No heim ends, coil over,
air or remote reservoir shocks allowed. No screw jacks or weight jacks
allowed. OEM upper A-frame may be replaced using aftermarket upper
A-frame (steel or aluminum cross shaft allowed), must display “IMCA
approved” decal on top of rear tube of A-frame.
6.No quick steer boxes
allowed.
7.Stock OEM type
steering pumps only. No aluminum bodied aftermarket power steering pumps
allowed. Remote reservoir pumps are okay but pump must be steel.
TIRES AND WHEELS
1.Tires must be D.O.T.
stock passenger car tires not exceeding 10" wide at any point on the tire.
No recaps. No all terrain tires allowed. No shaving or grooving allowed.
Tire may not extend outside the body of the car past the centerline of the
tread at the top of the tire.
2.Only steel wheels
allowed. Maximum of 8” in width. No bead locking devices allowed.
3.Right front wheel to
be reinforced or spoke wheel, with larger stud.1” diameter lug nuts are
required.
ENGINE
1.Engine must be
visibly stock and maintain stock or approved stock replacement components
(GM to GM, Ford to Ford, etc.) OEM passenger vehicle production blocks
only. No aftermarket blocks. No GM bowtie, Ford SVO or Chrystler W
blocks. Engine must remain in stock location. Center casting line of the
fuel pump must be 1 ½” ahead of the factory weld where the frame rail meets
the cross member. No roller cams. No roller lifters. All cars must have
operable starter. OEM type harmonic balancers only. Wet sump oiling system
only. No serpentine belts allowed.
2.One two bbl. O.E.M.
external stock appearing carburetor only, no Holleys and no dual feed
carbs. Carburetor must match engine, ford to ford and GM to GM. Venturi
may not exceed 1-3/8” and must be round. No oval, egg-shaped, notched, or
elongated venturies allowed. Maximum of a 1 inch spacer plate allowed under
the carburetor. Carburetor maybe claimed for $50. If claim denied, there
will be loss of points and money for that night’s racing. An approved
adapter plate is allowed. 2-barrel or 4-barrel cast iron intake manifolds
only, (no internal build up allowed and stock air cleaner mount must be
retained).
3.Cast iron intake and
exhaust manifolds only. No center dump exhaust manifolds. Exhaust must go
down and back and exit past the firewall under the car. Exhaust may not be
directed out the side of the race car. Mufflers are NOT required.
4.No aluminum heads
allowed.
5.No Ignition control
boxes. OEM ignition only. All ignition rotors, caps, coils and modules
must remain OEM-appearing. NO MSD boxes/ignition.
A protest rule has been implemented for
2010. See Protest Procedure Sheet attached.
CLAIMING RULES AND PROCEDURES
1.Cost of claim: $325
for engine - $25 for wrecker. $350 Total or $100 Exchange - $50 for
wrecker, $50 to claimed car's owner. (Seller’s choice)
2.Claim does not
include - (1) Flywheel (2) Clutch (3) Pressure plate (4) Bell housing (5)
Exhaust manifold (6) Carburetor (7) Starter (8) Motor mounts (9) Sending
units & switches for oil pressure and water temperature (10) Fan and pulleys
(11) Clutch ball (12) Clutch arm (13) Throw out bearing (14) Dip stick (15)
Water pump (16) Fuel pump (17) Distributor (18) Plug wires.
3.First four position
finishers must report directly to claim area and are subject to engine claim
by any other driver finishing fifth on back in the feature. Any driver
lapped by the fourth place car is not eligible to claim. Driver allowed one
claim ONLY per event, regardless of outcome of that claim. In case of
multiple claims on same engine, engine will to go to qualified claiming
driver finishing farthest back.
4.Driver making claim
must drive his racecar immediately after finish of feature, under its own
power, directly to claiming area. Only driver and officials allowed in
claiming area. Claim must be made within five minutes of checkered flag.
5.Claims must be made
immediately following feature race, and claimed engine must be completely
removed within one (1) hour after the last checkered flag falls.
6.Claims must be made
to track official, and $350 cash must accompany intention to claim.
7.Only driver may
claim engine & only driver may agree to sell or refuse to sell engine.
First sell or no sell by driver being claimed is binding.
8.Promoter may claim
any engine finishing in the top ten immediately following the feature.
Driver claim takes precedence over promoter claim.
9.Any driver found to
be claiming an engine for anyone other than himself will lose all track
points for the season and will be suspended for 30 calendar days or until
$500 fine is paid to the Speedway.
10.All claimed engines
must be removed from the car at the track; buyer must examine engine before
removal - once removal is started, sale is final.
11.No driver may claim
unless he has competed at the track the two previous events. (Claim is in
effect on opening night for all eligible drivers. Driver must have been at
track on opening night to be eligible to claim 2nd night of
season.)
12.No one driver may
claim any other one driver more than once during current calendar year or
claim more than two engines during the calendar year.
13.Refusal to sell will
result in disqualification; loss of money and trophy won that night, all
track points for the season and a $500 fine to be paid before being allowed
to race remainder of year.
14.Drivers are to be
held accountable for any sabotage discovered while pulling the engine. Any
sabotage discovered will result in the driver losing all track points and
being assessed a $500 fine. The claim may be disallowed and the money
returned to the claimer.
15.Any driver using any
device intended to deceive other drivers, including, but not limited to a
device to squirt oil into or onto the engine to give the outward appearance
of a “blown” engine, will forfeit all money earned that night. Driver will
be subject to fine equal to amount of prize money forfeited.
